when u were in car audio, what kind of setup ICE did you build for yourself?
are they those boomy ones to listen to pop and nothing but noise, or those really cool music ones. | sonyman,i called those boomy, many speakers setup as "ahbeng" setup,so sorry, those are not for mi.
The ICE i builded have sooth vocal(i'm not using smooth),good ambience, dynamic, details and well-balanced but i really frustrated with the limitation in car like placing of speakers.it dont allow mi to get a very decent staging n imaging, and this is what i expected from home audio. | yeah!i'm ready to rock n roll!!but....ai...my wallet is not ready....
welcome to the hifi world !!! you are all set to prepare urself in this nirvana |

Hi gurus,
Newbie here. Setup is as follows:
Mark Levinson No. 39 CD Player
Mark Levinson No. 331 Power Amp
Thiel CS 1.5 Floorstander Speakers
MIT Shotgun S3 Proline Interconnects
MIT Shotgun S3 Speaker Cables
Managed to get everything at a bargain price well below 20k. Of course everything is 2nd hand though, except the interconnects and speaker cables. Thankfully, ML products are built like a tank! My own slice of high end americana if you will However, looking to upgrade the speakers soon, waiting to audition the Thiel CS 3.7s.
Any recommendations on anything I should audition?

Power conditioners are DIY EMI/RFI filter for sources and pre-amp,5KVA AVR for power amps. |
Hi Alephman newbie here.
I have a system very much like yours.
Marantz CD16D
Plinius CD Lad preamp
McCormack DNA -1 power drive
Vandersteen Model 1, don't even know its a B or C edition.
The entire system is more than 10 years old by now, except for the Plinius, which I pick up used 3 years ago. The system had served me well, and I can lived with all its flaws; so no up grade for many many years.
You are probably the other Vandersteen user that i have encountered.
Cheers.

Hi there,
I guess you should try AQ for the interconnect to see if it improves your situation. Marantz and UR are never known to have that extra air, the only way about doing it is thru cables.
Since you have a good start with AQ speaker cables, I guess trying AQ would have that better synergy rather than trying other brands. Try to get at least a pair of Python to see what AQ can do for you.
Else, I would strongly suggest you to try NBS, especially the Honey Bee.
Regards,
KC

What coincidence! Never knew another Vandersteen and Marantz CD16D user. But for me the Vandys(as much as love them) are just a stepping stone. Some day, should I have a bigger room, I'll be looikng at something like Maggies, Apogees or even Quads.

hi ya all, long time no see you guys man, well just met up with uncle vic today and had a quick round with his system, superb sound, like a 50 k system though the setup is just a mere 15k
absolutely must respect uncle vics setup man, dont believe, go listen for urself and let him tell you, what secret he has for his system. the pain he got through making the system it is now, compare to then, im really impress with our 1 cent brass coin performance that helps reducing resoannce. a available product from hardware shops that makes a good wood cone tuining.
and also loads of ferrite that helps so much in improving the sytem sound. i can write more and more but you need to listen to urself

I reckoned it's mindset. Can't change that much, however we want
it. The 1 sen coins are very useful 'tools' for tuning hifi systems and
it's very cheap, it's your own money isn't it, so the money is still with
you in your setup! A lot being said, but audiophiles are
audiophiles, they want the proofs! But unfortunately, not willing to
go listen if someone says 1 sens coins could be used to tune
hifi systems! Again, it's mindset, skeptical, never read about it,
never seen it done before, so it doesn't exist, blah, blah, blah!!!!

When that happens, the Vandys are still good candidate for the home theater fronts. Cheers.
